Consultant Plastic Surgeon – Locum

Location: Hutt Hospital

Contract: Fixed-term covering parental leave from 1 August 2021 to 21 March 2022 (dates can be flexible)

Hours: Full-time (1.0 FTE)

Our organisation

Hutt Hospital, located in Lower Hutt and part of Hutt Valley District Health Board is a busy 260 bed general district hospital, serving a population of 134,000. The plastic surgery service provides regional services to Wellington, Wairarapa, Mid Central, Hawke’s Bay, Nelson/Marlborough and Whanganui DHBs equating to a draining population of 1.2 million. In addition the Unit provides supra-regional services in vascular anomalies and laser.

We have an internationally renowned plastic and burns unit, regional rheumatology and public health services, and all our specialties have a strong focus on excellence and innovation.

Lower Hutt is located close to Wellington, the Kapiti Coast and Wairarapa regions and provides opportunities for most recreational pursuits, sporting and cultural activities.

About the role

Due to parental leave, the Regional Plastic Surgery service has a 9 month gap at consultant level they wish to cover. This position would suit a generally trained plastic surgeon with subspecialty interests of hand, skin cancer, melanoma and breast being useful

This role will also have a commitment to a general plastic trauma list and will contribute to ‘see and treat’ skin lesion clinics. There will be a general plastic surgery on call commitment equating to 1:10 currently.

Applicants must be registered or eligible for vocational registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand and should have a minimum of two years’ experience post FRACS or equivalent in plastic and reconstructive surgery.
