The primary purpose of the Gillies Travelling Fund is to “help improve and advance the field of Plastic and Reconstructive surgery in New Zealand” through education and research.

The Gillies Travelling Fund was originally established in 1982 as a permanent memorial to New Zealand Plastic Surgeon Sir Harold Gillies and to support New Zealand Plastic Surgery Fellows travel overseas to gain additional skills and experience.

The Gillies Travelling Fund (GTF) is a Charitable Trust. The primary purpose of the trust is  to “help improve and advance the field of Plastic and Reconstructive surgery in New Zealand” through education and research. The Trust will approve and supply monetary grants to applicants for this the purpose. Recipients of the Trust will be advanced New Zealand PRS SET trainees or PRS surgeons recently (within one year) completed training.

The Trust will consider applications for the following educational activities: overseas fellowship; attendance at international meeting/ course; research project; costs related to a higher degree; costs related to publication of works or funding a visiting expert to support trainee activities.
