About the Role

Waikato Hospital is seeking both Fixed Term and Permanent Specialist Plastic Surgery Consultants to join the team.

Waikato Hospital is a major tertiary referral and teaching centre providing a wide range of plastic surgery services including hand surgery, head and neck reconstructive surgery, lower limb, cleft lip & palate, as well as being the regional burns unit for the Midlands Region. The department supports five regional secondary care and four satellite hospitals.

The successful applicant will join a well-established, dynamic team of eight Consultants and three Medical Officers supported by a strong multi-disciplinary team.

You will be part of a dynamic service delivering elective and acute care across Waikato Hospital and peripheral sites, with participation in the on‑call roster. Subspecialty interests in Hand Surgery, Cleft Lip and Palate, Breast, Head and Neck, or Burns are highly valued. The role also includes teaching, audit, and quality‑improvement activities.

The Plastic Surgery Unit provides comprehensive services to four satellite hospitals and the wider Midland Region, including Gisborne, Taranaki, and Rotorua. Applicants must hold, or be eligible for, vocational registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand as a Plastic Surgeon.

Whether you are an experienced consultant or newly starting your consultant career, you will play an important role in shaping the future of the service. No two weeks are the same—you will work across acute and elective surgery, outpatient clinics, skin lesion services, teaching, and care for a diverse population of more than 860,000 people.

Positions can be permanent or fixed term, full time or part time by negotiation.
