Selection for Training
Entry into the SET training program in Plastic and Reconstructive surgery is highly competitive. Eligibility criteria are published annually on The Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS) website at Selection Requirements. NZ Specialty specific selection regulations can be found on College website at NZ PRS Selection
The selection process explores the abilities, experience, standard of work performance and personal qualities of applicants that would enable them to perform all the required duties of a SET trainee, achieve all of the objectives of the SET programme, and become a skilled and highly competent Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon.
A range of professional and capability factors are considered in PRS applicants. In general, applicants accepted into SET in PRS should:
- Be dedicated to achieving and maintaining high standards of patient care
- Exercise sound clinical and ethical judgment
- Have the ability to develop the required technical competence
- Have a commitment to quality and safety in healthcare
Please note: From 2016 it will be mandatory for all applicants to SET PRS to have passed the Generic Surgical Sciences Examination.
